3. How to decide which Executive Coaching Certification to go for in India?

Here are a few facts that a person can consider while deciding which Executive Coaching Certification to go for.
*Executive Coaching is primarily where a coach is going to coach (as per the industry trend) top executives (CEO, CFO, Vice Presidents, etc.) of an organization, and the expectations of stakeholders will be that the executives get better at what they are currently doing and facilitate their own resources to get more results/outcomes for themselves from an organization’s perspective.
*As an Executive Coach your stakeholder might be a person (Managing Director, Board, Department Heads etc.) who wants their top leaders to get coached as per the organization’s norms and as per HR policies, to bring an Executive Coach to help top leaders to enhance their productivity.

Considering various aspects, particularly how an Executive Coach gets selected by corporates is dependent on the corporate experience of the Coach. Even though corporate experience has nothing to do with coaching, the current market trend is to have a Senior Executive from a corporate job become an Executive Coach at the latter part of his/her career.  There is a buzz around How much do ICF coaches get paid in this group, who is specifically looking for Executive Coaching certification.

Another important factor to consider is what Coaching education the Executive Coach has.  Here, a brand (like International Coaching Federation – ICF, International Association of Coaching – IAC, Tony Robbins, Richard Bandler etc.) comes in handy.  The current market trend is that you need to have attended a coaching program that is approved by ICF, while you don’t need to be an ICF Coach – these are two different things.

The first option is a cheaper option if a person wants to attend an ICF-approved program vis-à-vis the fully accredited ICF Coach Program. Many coaching schools won’t tell you the real difference between an ICF Coach Program (a program designed to make one an ICF certified coach) and an ICF-approved Coaching Program. In an ICF-approved Coaching Program, ICF approves the Coaching content and provides Coach training providers (under the guidance of Certified ICF Coaches, and ICF Mentor Coaches) an approval to run various courses approved by ICF.
